Give Reading a Boost with the Read-Aloud Award
Promote reading at your school and recognize quality children's books by taking part in NAESP's third annual Principal's Read Aloud Award. Read these five nominated books out loud to your students and vote for the one you think should be honored with the 2009 Principal's Read Aloud Award. The National Principals Resource Center offers all five titles at reasonable rates—buy them for your school library if you don't already have them.

Here are the five finalists:

A Bad Case of Stripes
by David Shannon

Dog Breath: The Horrible Trouble with Hally Tosis
by Dav Pilkey

Hooway for Wodney Wat
by Helen Lester, illustrated by Lynn Munsinger

Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Riding Hood
by Mike Artell
illustrated by Jim Harris

The Web Files
by Margie Palatini, illustrated by Richard Egielski

Once you've read each book, go to http://vovici.com/wsb.dll/s/4282g381b1 to vote for your favorite book. The Read Aloud Award will be presented to the winning author in April 2008 during NAESP's Annual Convention and Exposition in Nashville.

Vote by November 28th and you could win a $25 NPRC gift certificate. Every 100th voter will receive a $25 gift certificate to the NPRC. Make sure you vote today for your chance to win.

Also, help us start the selection process for the 2010 award. If you have a book that you have enjoyed reading to children, please submit the title, author/illustrator, and publisher along with your name to childrensbookaward@naesp.org. We are looking for books that are currently in print and therefore readily available to our members. We look forward to honoring great children's books and appreciate your participation in the process.
